How to order

Certificates, certified or ordinary copies or a report based on research may be ordered in writing (letter, e-mail or fax), by phone or on the spot. Requests for reports or for genealogic research for other than official purposes are accepted by some Provincial Archives in writing only, signed in your own hand (letter or fax). Contact information.

Reports are only prepared for themes specified in detail, i.e., the customer should be able to provide sufficient initial information when placing a request. The person's full name, date and place of birth (if known) are needed for person queries. Key questions for other queries include who? what? when? and where? The customer should facilitate answering the request by providing personal contact information, which makes it also possible for the officer handling the request to ask for additional information.

The report request must be submitted to the National Archives Service unit whose material the query concerns. The locations of the material are determined by the district division of the National Archives Service. Exceptions include records of the defence administration (in Finnish only) which are kept at the Sörnäinen Office of the National Archives (it receives report requests concerning material preserved there). The National Archives Service does not have any other digital ordering forms for certificates, certified or ordinary copies or reports based on research at the moment.

Databases of the National Archives Service are found on the records website. You may search for information in the Vakka archival database about archives preserved in the various units of the National Archives Service, and about the contents of the archives. Information about material in the Sörnäinen Office of the National Archives is available in the Aarre archival register (in Finnish only) in the same website .
