Library of the National Archives
The Library of the National Archives is a national specialized scientific library for archival science as well as for heraldry and sigillography, and it serves primarily the needs of research that is based on archival science and archival documents. The Library is, according to its collection policy, responsible for the literature and other library materials that are needed in the duties and customer service of the National Archives.
The collections of the Library of the National Archives consist of more than 87,000 volumes (circa 1900 shelf metres) of Finnish and foreign literature and of approximately 200 domestic and international periodicals.
The collections include:
- Literature on archival science, records management and the use of archives
- Reference works
- Source publications and official publications
- Literature on the history of Finland and neighbouring countries
- Literature on jurisprudence, administration and social sciences
- Literature on local history
- Family history and biographical literature
The library collections can be used free of charge. The Library is open during the opening hours of the National Archives.
The Library of the National Archives does not lend out books or other library material and it doesn’t have an interlibrary loan service either.
