Private archives
In addition to archives of the authorities, the National Archives Service holds private archives. These are a complement making it possible to get a fuller picture of the Finnish society.
The National Archives Service holds private archives that are of national importance. The types of archives held include those belonging to:
- important politicians and opinion leaders in society
- leading public servants
- important researchers and cultural individuals
- families that have been influential in various sectors
- historical manor houses
- the central management of national organisations
- archives documenting important social phenomena.
