Private archives

In addition to archives of the authorities, the National Archives Service holds private archives. These are a complement making it possible to get a fuller picture of the Finnish society.

The National Archives Service holds private archives that are of national importance. The types of archives held include those belonging to:

  • important politicians and opinion leaders in society
  • leading public servants
  • important researchers and cultural individuals
  • families that have been influential in various sectors
  • historical manor houses
  • the central management of national organisations
  • archives documenting important social phenomena.
