Welcome to the Provincial Archives of Oulu

The district of the Provincial Archives of Oulu covers the regions of the Council of Oulu Region, the Regional Council of Kainuu and the Regional Council of Lapland.

The Provincial Archives holds records of government authorities and private individuals in its area that are important for society and research. In addition, customers can access copies of records relating to northern Finland held in other archives.

The Provincial Archives of Oulu is open to all. The use of records in the research rooms is free of charge.

Our customers include people researching local and village histories, genealogists, students, researchers and people who are generally interested in their own past and the history of their home area. Authorities are also included in our customer group. Almost 5,000 customers visit the Provincial Archives every year.

The Provincial Archives has 32 seats for researchers, 2 research rooms, 2 computer terminals and 15 seats for reading microfilms. There is also a reference library at the customers disposal.
