Welcome to the Provincial Archives of Mikkeli
The district of the Provincial Archives of Mikkeli covers the provinces of South Savo, South Karelia and Kymenlaakso.
The Provincial Archives also holds records from the former province of Vyborg, including parish registers of Lutheran and Orthodox parishes from the territories ceded to Russia, regarding which the Provincial Archives will provide official certificates and extracts from the census register. One of the special tasks assigned to the Provincial Archives is the maintenance of the security microfilm archives.
The Provincial Archives of Mikkeli is open to all. The use of records in the research room is free of charge.
The Provincial Archives receives around 3,300 visitors a year, the majority of whom are genealogists. Customers can use the research room, which has 12 reading seats, two Internet terminals and three computers with the Karelia Database (only in finnish). The microfilm room has 11 reading devices for microfiche and 5 for roll films as well as one reading device for taking print-outs.
The library is partly available on open-access shelves in the research room. A part of it is located in the library storage room and literature stored there is delivered upon request.
