Records and their use
The Provincial Archives of Hämeenlinna holds records from agencies and civil service departments of state regional and local government administration, church and various municipal archives, private archives and copies of records (microfilm records). The oldest records date back to the 17th century. Most records originate from the district of the Provincial Archives.
Copies of records from the entire country as well as from various foreign collections relating to the history of Finland are stored in the Provincial Archives.
The Archives holds nearly 10,000 shelf-metres of records, around 90,500 microfiche and some 2,750 roll films.
Various special inventories that the Provincial Archives has compiled to facilitate the use of the materials constitute one of its special features.
More detailed information on the records stored in the Provincial Archives is available in the Vakka Archival Database.
